Mark Platten
Mark’s journey—from the hills of Yorkshire to the cutting edge of engineering, and now to the world of writing—reflects a lifelong passion for learning, leadership, and sharing knowledge with others.
Mark Platten was born in the tiny hamlet of Hoober, nestled in the hills above Rotherham. His early years were shaped by frequent moves across the county with his family, following his father’s work. After attending private schools, Mark’s family settled in Hertfordshire, where he chose to continue his education at a state school—a decision that gave him a deep appreciation for opportunity and community.
Mark’s professional life has been defined by over 35 years of leadership in the mission critical sector, specialising as a Lead Commissioning Manager for end clients in data centres and complex engineering projects. Renowned for his expertise in electrical and mechanical commissioning, Mark has led teams on high-profile projects across the UK and Europe, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and innovation. His commitment to workplace wellbeing is reflected in his role as a Mental Health First Aider and his advocacy for positive, supportive environments.
Beyond his technical career, Mark’s love of writing began as a hobby. Encouraged by friends and colleagues who saw the value in his words, he now shares his insights and stories with a wider audience. When not working or writing, Mark enjoys gardening, walking his dog Chip, and following Formula 1 and Tottenham Hotspur FC.
